Alzheimer?s Research Consortium Makes Tracking Breakthrough
The state funded Texas Alzheimer’s Research Consortium has come up with a new way to track the progression of the disease. It uses the same method but in a different way and can not only track the disease from one stage to the other but also track progression between stages. That could lead to better treatments and allow doctors to better see if treatments are working.
Texas Tech neuro-psychologist Dr. Sid O’Bryant says this also means more information for caregivers and families. “I can have a better estimate of how far they have progressed and what do they look like as far as how they are functioning in their daily life. It adds to what I can give back to the caregivers and the family in addition to everything else we do in our examinations.”
The four research institutions participating in the Texas Alzheimer’s Research Consortium are The Baylor College of Medicine, Houston; Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock; University of North Texas Health Science Center, Fort Worth; and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas.
