Cities all across Texas could save millions because of a state law that took effect Sept. 1. The computer take-back law requires manufacturers to recycle their old machines so they won't end up in city landfills, which also means cities don't have to run and pay for recycling programs either -- saving you big money. Fort Worth Assistant Director of Environmental Management Kim Mote says, "By some estimates, that could be as much as 600 million dollars over 10 years for computers and televisions. Now ,this law doesn't cover televisions but televisions are one of the e-waste challenges that we have." Environmentalists hope to add TVs to this law next year. Mote says this program will also encourage manufacturers to make products that are easier to upgrade and recycle.
