Governor Rick Perry hopes there won’t be looting in the area slammed by Hurricane Dolly. “Hopefully what you will see out of Texans is not that type of activity.” The Governor says however if it happens those people will be dealt with. “Certainly law enforcement and obviously the military personnel would be there if there were any individuals that decided looting would be an appropriate activity.”
Meantime Attorney General Greg Abbott is warning of scam artists and price gouging. When the Governor declared south Texas counties a disaster area that game the Attorney General the power to go after anyone hiking prices on basic necessities. Attorney General Spokesman Tom Kelley says that includes things like “groceries, water, fuel, lodging, medical supplies and the like.”
Kelley says when a disaster like this hits there are always scam artists who offer their services for repairs door to door. He says make sure you know who you are dealing with. “Check out the company you are dealing with through the BBB or through us. See if they have any consumer complaints filed against them. Find out if they are bonded and insured and if they can do this work and avoid paying a great deal of money up front.”
