Dallas Police say those downtown cameras are starting to pay off. But not everyone's okay with them.
The Dallas police department says it has landed its first conviction and jail sentence because of the cameras. A 30-year old man was caught taking money out of a coin-operated vending machine. He got 45 days. And Lieutenant Vernon Hale says there are more.
But Chip Pitts of the Bill of Rights Defense Committee notes the cameras are operated on an 820,000 dollar grant. He says such money can be better spent on real officers instead of cameras, which he calls intrusive on personal liberties.
