Sen. Hutchison Announces $84 Million Grant for DART

WASHINGTON - Texas' senior Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison today announced that the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will award $84 million to Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), as part of the existing Full Funding Grant Agreement (FFGA) that was approved in 2006. The funding is slated for continued construction efforts on the DART Northwest/Southeast.

"DART plays a critical role in connecting the Dallas metropolitan area, and helps keep the regional economy humming. This FFGA funding payment to DART will keep the Northwest/Southwest light rail line extension on track," said Sen. Hutchison.

Earlier this year, Sen. Hutchison met with DART representatives to receive an update on pending projects. The officials reported that the Green line expansion will be completed on time. DART has consistently come in ahead of schedule and under budget in impact studies and other progress markers.

In July 2006, Sen. Hutchison helped obtain a $700 million FFGA between DART and the FTA to extend the Green Line.
