State's Monthly Sales Tax Collections Drop In April
The state’s monthly sales tax collections drop for the first time in years.
April sales tax collections drop 1.8 percent compared to last April. That’s the first monthly drop since august of 2003. For the fiscal year which is September of last year until now, the state is up six percent.
So what is causing this. Comptroller’s spokesman RJ Desilva says obviously the economy is slowing down and the high cost of fuel means people are spending more money to gas up and less to buy other things that have sales tax attached.
