In the race for mayor of the Dallas suburb of Farmers Branch, the councilman who pushed for one of the country's most sweeping anti-illegal immigration measures handily defeated a businessman who opposed the ordinance. Tim O'Hare had about 64% of the vote to Gene Bledsoe's 36% with all precincts reporting.
Incumbent Irving mayor Herbert Gears gets to keep his job for another term. Gears received 54% of the vote in the three way race. Roland Jeter had 38%; Rigo Reza had just under 8%.
Challenger Ron Branson defeated Carrollton Mayor Becky Miller, whose colorful background had come into question in recent days, by a margin of 55-45%.
The Dallas Independent School District got it's $1.35 billion bond issue from the voters. It will pay for 15 new schools and repair and renovate 200 others.
Fort Worth also got it's $150 million road and dridge repair bond issue. The city has just four years to spend the money.
In the races for trustees of the Tarrant County College, in District 2, Joe Hudson beat Conrad C. Heede. Hudson had 69%, Heede had 31%. In District 3 Kristin Vandergriff beat Jerry Pikulinski with 62% to 38% of the vote. The big issue for the College District is the continued construction of the TCC downtown campus. The vote would seem to have settled that issue in favor of the new campus.
Finally, The newest Bedford City Councilman won't be toasting his victory over his opponent Jim Wallace. That's because Chris Brown is just 19-years-old -- not old enough to drink. Brown won with 84% of the vote. |
