The Number One Cause Of Injuries For Female Student Athletes Is Cheerleading

Cheerleading is the prime cause of serious injuries in female student athletes.  A new report says the sport accounts for two-thirds of catastrophic injuries.  Dr. Steven Rush is a trauma surgeon at Harris Methodist Fort Worth.
He says it's important that parents of cheerleaders find out what injury prevention programs are in place at their daughter's school.
He says what's changed in cheerleading is the competitive nature of the sport, with a stronger gymnastic component.
