UIL Releases Final Steroid Test Results

Last school year as mandated by the legislature the University Interscholastic League had ten thousand high school athletes tested for steroid use.  It’s been known for weeks that only two tests were positive but now the rest of the results are in.
UIL Athletic Coordinator Mark Cousins says 22 students are listed and protocol positive.  “Basically what that is are kids that violated the protocol whether it be they had an unexcused absence on the day of testing or whether they actually refused to take part in the collection process.  I think even one student athlete actually violated the protocol by leaving the testing area without approval.”  He says those athletes could face the same punishment as if they tested positive for steroid use.
Cousins says there were four students who have unresolved tests and will be re-tested when school starts and will have to pass those tests in order to play in the fall.
