Competing groups marched and rallied in Irving Saturday for and against the city policy of turning over arrestees to ICE to have their citizenship checked. Those found to be in this country illegally are then deported.
"Citizens for Immigration Reform", headed by a hispanic, rallied at Irving City Hall for the policy, saying that illegal immigrants put a burden on resources.
An hour later, the group Axio America marched toward Irving City Hall chanting "USA USA" and "Yes we can. Yes we can." Axio America contends that the policy of turning over all arestees to the government to have their citizenship checked is racial profiling.
Initially, there was some heckling between the groups but no serious confrontations were reported. The groups were kept 25 feet apart and behind barricades.
Two people were arrested and charged with assault last month during a similar demonstration in Irving.
