Seems hard to imagine, but we're struggling with underweight babies and overweight kids. It's an issue getting a closer look at an Arlington workshop.
The percentage of underweight babies in the U.S. is at a 40 year high. The U.S. is actually one of the worst performing countries among developed nations.
Dr. Michael Lu from the UCLA School of Public Health tells an infant mortality conference, it goes back to the poor nutrition and health of expectant moms. That flips on a switch in the baby that, it's facing a world of starvation, when it's not. The baby then tries to hold on to certain nutrients in order to survive.
Dr. Lu addressed a UNT Health Science Center workshop on improving babies' health.
