Ernie Brown (that's me) is originally from Houston. Education? Yes. The University of Houston, Stephen F. Austin State University (located in Nacogdoches, TX, known now because it's where much of the Space Shuttle Columbia came down) and the University of Texas/Austin. All in a futile attempt to get a degree which would now be worthless, as are most college degrees. I've been a college senior since about 1936 and plan to finish one day when I have nothing else to do. By the way, if you care, the major field of study was history. I had wanted to be a college prof, but quickly realized because I believe in logic, fact, and truth, I would never fit in an academic position.

My broadcasting career began at age 17. I begged for an intern position at KULF in Houston. After four months of mindless work, I was given the overnight, on-air job, probably because no one else wanted it. The job paid $6.25 an hour and the hours sucked canal water. But did I get to meet Robbie Dupree... remember the song "Steal Away?" Neither does anyone else. I showed up every night and, as far as they knew, didn't steal office supplies, so they kept me on until I went across the street to KRBE. I'll always be grateful to KULF Program Director Steve Roddy for the opportunity. I'm not sure whatever happened to him after I left, but in our last conversation, he taught me a great lesson: if you want to pay me back for giving you a break, then help someone else when you're a position to do so later on in life. And I always have tried. (Steve had a brush with fame: his college roommate was radio legend Rick Dees.)

From KRBE, came a slew of other stations and moves in various music formats around Texas and the country. None of which I liked very much, although I found country music radio to be an enjoyable experience. Your humble host was the Country Music Association Radio Air Personality of the Year in 1991. I received a nice leaded-crystal trophy and was recognized on the national television broadcast. Anyway, while the CMA was a nice pat on the back, (as well as several other awards and nominations I received over the years,) none of it led me anyplace and I continued to screw up my career in various ways, always just chasing the money. Until I finally realized the problem...I wanted to actually talk on the radio. SO...

Talk radio? Thank you, KRLD in Dallas/Ft. Worth (remember my Texas USA show?,) then five years in afternoons at KOMO in Seattle, then my nationally-syndicated, late-night program; America at Night, which I broadcast from the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas. Talk radio has given me the chance to meet and argue with bigshot's I never would have gotten to meet otherwise. Finally, broadcasting was what I wanted it to be: Interesting.

If you've never heard my show, here are some insights: I talk about everything that interests me... that's usually never politics. And I talk in a controlled manner, unless something irritates me or some idiot attacks me, then I go mad-cow on you and you swear eternal revenge. I rarely talk personality politics, but when I'm off the medication, I have no problem trashing some dolt elected official who deserves it... and they all do at some point. I don't know everything, but I'm usually right anyway... funny how that works. And one last thing; I'm biased. Very. You'll learn to live with it. My family did.

No, I'm not married, never have been (and please don't offer to set me up with your friend, sister, niece, granddaughter, secretary or hooker...hey, if Michael Jackson can be married twice, I'm thinking I'll eventually find my soul mate.) I don't have a pet. My plants usually die, so you can imagine the murder it would be on a dog, or even a visiting relative, living with me. There are no pictures on my walls at home. My cubicle at the office has no decor. In my spare time, I solve mysteries, relax at Stately Brown Manor, and talk to Richard Dreyfuss about foreign policy.
