A new Commerce Department report says total income in Collin County grew by 12.4 percent last year...that's the fastest rate of income growth among the nation's 164 counties. County Judge Keith Self says small businesses are adding the most jobs. "The large companies in the recent past in this nation have not led the way in job creation. It's been the smaller, the entrepreneurs who have built the jobs, and I suspect that would hold true in Collin County as well." And he says growth is happening all over the county, not just Plano. "Collin County is mushrooming with growth...our unemployment rate is low, our income is high. It's just a tremendously dynamic county in which to live and work." The unemployment rate in Collin County for November came in at 5.3 percent, up from 5 percent in October. The statewide jobless rate is 5.6 percent.
