High speed rail is again being talked about in Austin. Texas got close to high speed rail in the 90’s but never could get the project really going. The studies will begin again in the next few months, especially if federal dollars come to the state to pay for them. This however will be handled much differently by TXDOT, mainly says Transportation Commissioner Ted Houghton because of the backlash caused by the Trans Texas Corridor. “You sometimes learn the hard way and don’t need to repeat it.” The idea is the make sure the public is involved from the very beginning of the project and everyone stays educated about the project as it moves forward.
