Copper Wire Thieves Plunge Stretch of Katy Trail Into Darkness

With winter on its way, and with our move back to standard time, it's dark enough in the early evening, as it is. But because of some thieves in Dallas, it's even darker on the Katy Trail. From the Dallas parks department, Dave Strueber says crooks have been stripping copper wire from light standards along the trail near Reverchon Park. Nine lights are out right now, making for additional security concerns. Users of the Katy Trail have been attacked in several high-profile assaults and the city has been at pains to re-assure Dallas residents the trial is safe and well illuminated. Copper thefts spiked a few years ago when metal prices were going through the roof. That bubble has deflated somewhat lately but with economy sputtering, copper wire could once again becoma a hot commodity.
