Blood drives to help the victims of the Fort Hood massacre are underway across North Texas. One of the largest is happening at the American Red Cross office along LBJ Freeway in Farmers Branch. Spokeswoman Anita Foster tells KRLD they have sent a lot of blood to the Ft. Hood area, and that put a serious dent in the North Texas blood supply. The Red Cross drive runs through 8 PM today.
Bedford-based Carter Blood Care is calling on donors to roll up their sleeves to replenish blood supplies depleted in the treatment of the Fort Hood shooting victims. Carter BloodCare has sent O-negative blood to hospitals in Killeen, along with several units of platelets. O-negative blood is vital because its considered universal in the sense that nearly anyone of any blood type can receive an O-negative transfusion with few problems. Carter Blood Care is the primary supplier to Killeen-area hospitals.
Apex Imaging in Bedford is having a Carter BloodCare blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at 1320 Airport Freeway off Bedford Road.
