Two Children Struck By Driver On Darkened Stretch of Pioneer Parkway

Two children have severe injuries after being run down in Arlington over the weekend.  Several kids were crossing a dark stretch of Pioneer Parkway near Collins when a car struck two of them around 8 p.m. Saturday.  One child, about five-years-old, was rushed to the hospital by helicopter.  Another, about twelve, was taken by ambulance. Their conditions have not been released.  The driver stopped to help, so police will probably not file charges.  Investigators are not sure why the children were crossing the busy Pioneer Parkway after dark but there are some shops along there, including a supermarket and a convenience store.  A police spokeswoman says they may have been heading to one of those.
