The Texas unemployment rate rose slightly in October while the state bucked a yearlong trend by adding jobs.
A Texas Workforce Commission report released Friday says the jobless rate rose to 8.3 percent from 8.2 percent in September, however the state added 41,700 jobs. The explanation for the unemployment rate going up while jobs being created is explained by The Texas Workforce Commission's Ann Hatchitt. Hatchitt tells KRLD the unemployment rate looks at the actual Texas workers and the reason the rate went up in October is because there were more Texans entering the job market. So when they enter the job market from having no job it adds to the ranks of the unemployed.
The Fort Worth/Arlington area added almost 4,000 new jobs and the Dallas metro area gained nearly 6,000.
The Texas jobless rate continued to track well below the national rate of 10.2 percent.
Education and health services had the biggest increase among job sectors, adding 14,900 jobs.
