Irving Police Officer Shoots Suspect



A 49 year old man was shot and killed by an Irving police officer early this morning. At 3:20 am police responded to calls of gun shots fired on W. 18th street. While patrolling the area police confronted  49 year old Orlando Rodriguez carrying a rifle. After being ordered to drop the weapon Rodriguez turned towards the officer. The unnamed officer fired at and hit Mr. Rodriguez. He was taken to Parkland hospital where he later died.   The weapon turned out to be a BB gun. The Irving Police department has launched a formal investigation into the incident.
