All that sweat at the gym could soon power your laptop, or keep your lights on. The Texas State University Recreation Center will soon be helping to power the rest of the University. “We are going to be the largest human power plant in the world because we will be hooking up more machines than any place has to date.” Director of Campus Recreation Glen Hanley says the 30 elliptical machines in the recreation center will be hooked up to a machine that can convert the people power moving the machine into electrical power that will be returned to the University’s power grid. He isn’t sure how much power will be generated overall but a typical 30 minute elliptical workout could power your laptop for around three hours.
