Temperatures are now well below freezing, causing icy conditions that have forced the closure of east-bound I-30, one of the main commuter routes into downtown Dallas. Ice began to form around 6 a.m. as mercuries fells several degrees below the freezing point. The Dallas County Sheriff's Office ordered the east-bound lanes of the freeway closed near Beckley, west of downtown. Other icy patches around Dallas-Fort Worth are causing slowdowns. In Tarrant County, a large patch of ice was reported in North Richland Hills on Rufe Snow near Loop 820, another busy intersection for commuters. At 6 a.m. the temperature at DFW Airport was 28 degrees with a wind chill reading of 15 degrees because of stiff north winds running about 20 miles-an-hour with some gusts as high as 28 miles-an-hour.
