KRLD Signal Map

Explanation of the KRLD Coverage Map by Erik Disen, Director of Engineering and Facilities

KRLD DAYTIME COVERAGE: 0.5 mV/m KRLD is "protected" to the 0.5 mV/m (millivolts per meter) contour during the day. This signal level is easily receivable on a car radio. The contour drawn on the map means that the KRLD signal is this strong or stronger everywhere inside this line. Unlike most Metroplex stations, KRLD is protected against interference out to 0.5 mV/m. To be protected against interference means that KRLD is at least 20 times stronger than other potentially interfering AM stations.

KRLD NIGHTTIME COVERAGE: 0.5 mV/m This is the same as the daytime, except that it moves slightly due to the use of a different antenna system at night. The nighttime interference-free zone is much bigger than almost all other Dallas/Ft. Worth AM stations.

KRLD NIGHTTIME SKYWAVE SERVICE As a former "clear channel" station, KRLD is licensed to give secondary service via "skip" to a large geographic area at night. KRLD is engineered to deliver a 0.5 mV/m signal for at least 50% of the time to all locations within the large contour. This service is protected from objectionable interference from other stations on 1080 kHz.
